AlterPode was conceived by Dr. Sorin A. Matei, Associate Professor of Communication at Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana, U.S.A. Version 0.1 was built by Chris Miller, at the time GIS Librarian & Assistant Professor of Library Science, Purdue University. Chris is now affiliated with MIT. version 1.0, in the present form was coded by Dylan Kuhn, the creator of the WordPress GeoMashup plugin.
